Six people, three bays

Bears Motorsport started as a race team, not a manufacturer. The trailers we could buy were cargo boxes with a marketing brochure — fine for hauling drywall, indifferent to the fact that a karting weekend is a mobile machine shop running on four hours of sleep. So we built our own. Then somebody at the track asked us to build theirs.

That is still roughly the size of the operation. Six people, three build bays, one trailer per bay from the day it lands to the handover. There is no production line, no rotating crew, no outsourced sub-assemblies. The person who builds your fit-out is the person who hands you the keys.

Why we keep it small

We get asked regularly why we do not scale up, and the honest answer is that scaling up would destroy the thing people come to us for. The a week or so work because one build owns one bay. Add a fourth trailer to three bays and you have invented a queue, and a queue is what the national manufacturers already do better than we ever could.

So instead of growing the output we grow the specification. The money that a bigger operation would spend on a second shift and a sales team goes into aluminium, marine birch and hours.

Come and stand in one

We are an hour north of San Francisco. You are welcome to walk the floor mid-build, put your hand on a frame on the jig, and sit in a finished trailer to decide whether the bench is where you would want it. Most people change two or three things after standing in one. That is not a nuisance — it is the entire reason we are worth talking to instead of ordering from a catalogue.
